Important: DOD Does Not Perform or Interpret Plaque Analysis

Diagnostic Orders Direct does not perform, interpret, or provide coronary plaque analysis. Plaque analysis is typically performed through the imaging facility, radiology group, or software/vendor workflow associated with a completed CCTA dataset.

DOD only provides a $40 virtual provider review for order requests. If an order is issued, you take it to your chosen facility, which determines whether plaque analysis is available and how it is performed.

What Is Coronary Plaque Analysis?

Coronary plaque analysis is an advanced post-processing technique applied to a completed coronary CT angiography (CCTA) dataset. Specialized software quantifies and characterizes coronary plaque — including plaque volume, composition (calcified, non-calcified, or mixed), and high-risk features that may indicate vulnerable plaque.

Because plaque analysis requires a completed CCTA dataset, it is not a standalone study. If you are seeking plaque analysis, you typically need a provider order for a CCTA. The imaging facility and radiology group determine whether plaque analysis is available and how it is performed.

DOD is not affiliated with any specific plaque analysis software vendor, imaging facility, or radiology group. Orders are reviewed for medical appropriateness and are not guaranteed.

CCTA Safety Considerations

Since plaque analysis requires a CCTA, the same safety considerations apply: IV contrast, kidney function (eGFR) review, contrast allergy screening, medication review, and facility-specific heart-rate or rhythm protocols. Always follow your imaging facility's specific preparation instructions.
