Provider Reviews
A licensed provider reviews your request, medical history, symptoms, and any prior imaging or relevant labs.
Order Issued if Appropriate
If medically appropriate, an order is issued. You may take it to the imaging center or lab of your choice, subject to facility acceptance.
Pricing
The $40 fee covers the virtual provider consultation only. Imaging center, lab, radiologist, contrast, facility, and insurance fees are separate and vary by facility. Diagnostic Orders Direct is not affiliated with any imaging center or lab.
For contrast-enhanced CT studies, recent renal function (eGFR/creatinine) results are typically required. If not available, the provider may order labs first or recommend a non-contrast alternative. Patients with contrast dye allergies should disclose this during intake.

What is a CT scan and when is it used?
CT (Computed Tomography) uses X-ray technology to produce cross-sectional images of the body. It is commonly used for head injuries, chest evaluation, abdominal pain, bone fractures, vascular conditions, and cancer staging.
What types of CT scans are available?
Common CT types include CT head, CT chest, CT abdomen/pelvis, CT spine, CT angiography, and coronary calcium scoring. Each targets specific anatomy and clinical questions. A provider determines the appropriate study based on your symptoms.
How is CT different from MRI?
CT is faster and better for detecting bone fractures, acute trauma, lung findings, and abdominal emergencies. MRI provides superior soft tissue contrast and is preferred for brain, spine cord, and joint imaging. Choice depends on your clinical situation.
Can I get a CT scan order without seeing a doctor in person?
Yes. A virtual provider review is conducted via our online intake platform. If medically appropriate, a CT scan order may be issued after the licensed provider reviews your request and history.
Is the CT scan order guaranteed?
No. Orders are issued only when medically appropriate as determined by the licensed provider. The provider may recommend an alternative study or no order.
Do I need eGFR labs for a CT with contrast?
Yes, most contrast-enhanced CT studies require recent renal function (eGFR/creatinine) results. If unavailable, the provider may order labs first or recommend a non-contrast study.
