Delayed Injury Imaging: Get Evaluated Now
An injury from weeks or months ago that was never properly imaged — still causing symptoms, still limiting you. If it wasn't imaged at the time, it may be worth evaluating now.

Emergency Symptoms — Use the ER, Not This Service
For new acute injuries, suspected fractures with deformity, inability to bear weight, or severe neurological symptoms — go to the ER or urgent care immediately. Diagnostic Orders Direct is not an emergency service.
Why Delayed Injuries Often Go Unimaged
It's more common than you might think. Injuries often go unimaged at the time because:
The injury seemed minor at first and was treated conservatively with rest and ice
ER or urgent care took X-rays (which showed no fracture) but didn't order MRI
Physical therapy was prescribed without prior imaging
No health insurance or access to follow-up care at the time
The pain was manageable initially but has now worsened or not resolved
Workers' compensation or legal delays prevented timely evaluation
Injuries That Commonly Warrant Delayed Imaging
Ligament tears, meniscal damage, and bone bruising remain detectable on MRI long after injury.
Disc herniation, nerve compression, and spinal cord changes are visible regardless of injury age.
Rotator cuff tears and labral injuries often worsen over time and may require surgical planning.
Severe ligament sprains and osteochondral lesions may not heal fully without proper diagnosis.
Occult fractures (e.g., scaphoid) and ligament injuries can be missed on initial X-rays.
